My newborn sessions are the perfect way to gain timeless keep sake images of your baby.  These sessions are held when baby is ideally between 4-21 days old. I highly recommend booking your newborn session in after your 20 week scan to ensure your slot. All newborn sessions are booked in on a “floating” date this allows us to be flexible in moving your session if baby arrives early or late. I simple add you to my diary for around 7 days after your due date and we then keep in touch around this time, once baby arrives we will pin point a date. This is why it’s so important to book in as early as you can to secure your slot as I can only take 6 newborn sessions per month due to this reason.

FAQ’s

How early should you do newborn photos?

Ideally we want to photography your newborn between 7-10 days this will give you those curly sleepy poses just like baby being in the womb which is why this is the perfect time for your session. But of course I understand sometimes it’s not possible for this to happen, whether it be you’ve had to stay in hospital or just not quite feeling ready to leave the house yet which is why I offer my newborn sessions between 4-21days.

Do your newborn sessions include parent and sibling images too?

*Absolutely* I will always encourage you to have parent/sibling/family images at the end of your newborn session. Of course if this is something you do not want to do I will not make you. This is something we will discuss once you get in touch to book your slot, we can always go with the idea and if you change your mind on the day it’s no issue at all so please don’t feel pressured to have them.

What if my baby won’t sleep?

Let’s face it every baby is completely different and with saying that so is every newborn session I have. No baby is the same to the next one and therefore I tailor your session to your newborn. If we have tried everything and baby wont sleep don’t panic we will just roll with it, either way we will still get a gorgeous gallery of images. If baby is really unsettled and I feel I cannot get you that *stunning* gallery we will rearrange your session for you to return in a few days.

I’d love sibling images but my other children will be at school?

We have a few options if my diary can accommodate it we can try to book your session for later in the day so maybe you could pick the kids up just an hour before they would finish for school to have their photos. I also have lots of parents who just pop them out of school for a “doctors/dentist appointment” at most we will only need the siblings for a maximum of 45 minutes.

How do  I prepare  my baby for a newborn session?

If possible schedule your session in ahead of time so you know it’s booked and another thing ticked off your list. But this isn’t always possible don’t panic if you can’t do this. Whether you book ahead of time or once baby has arrived. I send all my clients a welcome guide this will help prepare you for your session and contains all the information you will need from what to bring, outfit ideas etc.

What do newborn photos include?

All of my newborn sessions include 2-3 prop set ups before your session I will send you a colour palette for you to select your colors from and this is how I will style your session to those colors. Within those 2-3 prop set ups (depending on how well baby settles to if we do all 3) I will do a mixture of poses and angels to create different images I will do a mixture of full image shots, close ups and baby’s features. Along with family, parent and sibling images at the end if you wish.

Why do I need to keep my baby awake prior to the session?

It’s not always possible but if you can aim to keep baby awake from 30-60 minutes before our session this will help our session run more smoothly as baby is more likely to sleep for the duration of the session. Ways to do this could be bathing baby before our session or playing with them. It will just mean they are ready for a long nap when they arrive to the studio.

What to expect from a new-born photo shoot?

The session focuses on capturing natural, timeless photographs of your newborn baby so that you can remember exactly how tiny they were, and all of the little details that were there when they were first born. Each session allows time to take family and sibling photographs too.

What do sibling’s wear in newborn photos?

Most important thing is that they are comfortable in what they are in. This will help the session run smoothly as the children will be happy. Try to avoid anything oversized/ bulky. In terms of colors I would use a colour/colors that you have chosen from the colour palette for the newborn session so the images flow together. For boys I would say jeans/chino shorts t-shirt or polo top. For girls leggings a simple top or a dress. Avoid heavy patterns, bright colors, or logos/cartoons as your eye will be drawn to these first in the images.

Is 3 months too late for newborn photographs?

It’s never too late to photograph your baby! Yes we won’t get those sleepy and curly poses however your baby will be begging to hit other milestones at 3 months and therefore we can still get stunning images of your baby. Take a look at our “My baby’s 1st Photoshoot page for more details”
